The magnificent Italian baritone, Paolo Gavanelli, joined by the renowned Welsh tenor, Dennis O’Neill return to the National Concert Hall, Dublin for one performance only on Saturday 23rd January.

Paolo Gavanelli has now firmly established himself as the most sought-after Verdi baritone performing on world stages today. Following amazing performances of Rigoletto in San Francisco he was described as “the most lustrous Italian baritone of his generation” and “San Francisco has had most of the first rank Italian baritones of the past half century, Tito Gobbi, Giuseppe Taddei, Ettore Bastianini, Renato Bruson, Piero Cappuccilli and Leo Nucci and (Gavanelli) holds his own in this distinguished group.” Paolo who has been at the top of his career for some years now, is in constant demand all over the world performing in all the great opera houses such as Munich, Berlin, Paris, Helsinki and London, Tokyo and New York amongst many others

Sharing the stage with Gavanelli for this exciting and prestigious event, which takes place in Dublin only on this occasion, will be the much loved Welsh tenor, Dennis O’Neill who stunned Cork audiences when he appeared at the City Hall with the world famous soprano, Kiri Te Kanawa as part of the Cork 2005 celebrations.

Dennis O’Neill is a much sought-after tenor all over the world. He continues to perform on all the very best operatic stages such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, The Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, Munich, Hamburg Australia, the list goes on. He performs the major tenor roles such as Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Tosca, Il Trovatore, Otello, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Ballo in Maschera etc. Dennis’ interest in young singers and their training is legendary and he is Director of the very prestigious Cardiff International Academy of Voice.

Special guests for this evening will be the hugely talented Voices of Limerick, under their musical director, Colette Davis. Voices of Limerick have been a great friend of the O’Tuama Opera Gala concerts over the years and it adds another dimension to have such a talented group as part of the programme.

Accompanying the artistes for this evening will not only be one, but two, accompanists. Welsh Maestro Phillip Thomas is no stranger to Dublin and Ireland and his performances are always looked forward to eagerly. On this occasion, Phillip will be joined by first time visitor to Ireland, Alessandro Pierfederici, who is also an extremely talented performer. Using two pianos for accompaniment will be another first for Barra O’Tuama Promotions.
