THE BORD GAIS NEW YEAR OPERA GALA | |  | The Bord Gais New Year Opera Gala has become a permanent fixture in the diaries of music lovers all over Ireland. Every January, Barra O’Tuama Promotions, generously sponsored by Bord Gais, mange to produce concerts of such a calibre that, year after year, these prestigious events are sold out well in advance of the date. This year looks as it will be no exception to the rule as returning to Ireland to perform at the National Concert Hall in Dublin on January 21st and at the City Hall in Cork on January 28th is the much loved Welsh tenor, Dennis O’Neill. Dennis will be joined by the well-known Irish soprano, Regina Nathan and the RTE Concert Orchestra, conducted by Phillip Thomas, who is renowned in Ireland for his wonderful accompaniment in these concerts over the years. The concert narrator for these performances will be Sean Rocks.
Dennis O’Neill is a very much sought-after tenor all over the world. He continues to perform on all the very best operatic stages such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, The Royal Opera Covent Garden, La Scala Milan, Munich, Hamburg Australia, the list goes on and on. He performs in roles such as Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci, Tosca, Il Trovatore Otello, Lucia di Lammermoor, Ballo in Maschera etc. He is also a very successful recording and TV artist having had his own show on the BBC. His special Christmas show will be broadcast on RTE on this Christmas Eve.
Joining Dennis will be the internationally renowned Irish soprano, Regina Nathan. Regina’s career has taken her all over the world from Amsterdam to Madrid to Brussels, Hamburg and Geneva as well as performing in Ireland. As one of Ireland’s best loved sopranos, Regina's talents embrace everything from classic Lieder to traditional Irish song. She has enraptured audiences throughout Ireland, London's Wigmore Hall, the Purcell Room, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and famously with Placido Domingo in a sold out audience at Dublin's 'Point Theatre'.
Dennis and Regina will perform with the RTE Concert Orchestra, conducted by Phillip Thomas in a programme of arias, duets and orchestral pieces from the popular operas by such composers as Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Gounod and many more.
